Uprising and burials
It was founded as an auxiliary cemetery in 1831 during the cholera epidemic. It was created quickly, within a few weeks, and only 83 people were buried there. Among the people who have rested here is, among others Wilhelm Thau, the owner of the brewery at Breslauerplatz (currently Piłsudski Square), Franz Adamczyk, royal poviat court attorney, and wife of Dr. Zedler, a city doctor who was one of those who tried to fight the epidemic (he even published a newspaper dedicated to it). The last burial took place around 1880. [source: Wikipedia, 2631538]
Current state
This is one of the oldest surviving cemeteries of Opole until today, although almost nothing has been left of it. It is surrounded by a wall with a chapel of St. John of Nepomuk. The cemetery area itself is covered with a rare tree stand, no gravestone has been preserved in its entirety. A dozen, overturned or damaged plants are more or less overgrown with vegetation. In several places you can also see the depressed earth in the place of the graves. [source: Wikipedia, 2631538]
