Description
The Southern Communal Cemetery was designed by Piotr Szaroszyk. According to the plan, the deepest graves (with the largest number of storeys) were placed on the west side, while the shallower on the eastern side. The first tomb in the form of a shrine was built in the cemetery. The building, covered with field stones, can hold 30-40 bodies. In the necropolis all forms of burial are possible, and besides, the ashes of the dead can also be scattered on the Meadow of Memory. Funeral ceremonies take place in the Pre-Burial House, which houses two ceremonial halls. One of the ceremonial halls serves as the Catholic cemetery chapel dedicated to the Lord's Resurrection, in which the Catholic funeral service is performed by the priests of the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Pinkie. In this chapel, holy masses are celebrated on every Sunday. The second room is a secular hall where secular ceremonies and various denominations are performed. The Southern Communal Cemetery is a municipal cemetery, managed by the Capital City of Warsaw - the Board of Municipal Cemeteries. [source: Wikipedia, ]
