Cemetery of the parish Barbara - cemetery located in Dąbrowa Górnicza at ul. Starocmentarnej in the western part of the Staszic district near the border with Sosnowiec. It is one of the oldest necropolis in Dąbrowa Górnicza. Until 1875, Dąbrowa Górnicza was subject to the parish of Saint. The Trinity in Będzin, a growing number of residents, meant that efforts were made to establish a parish church on the spot, and with it to find a place to build a cemetery. In 1887, thanks to the intercession of the engineer Wincenty Choroszewski, who was the head of the Western Mining District, the district authorities transferred the newly formed parish community between the Reden mine, the Ignacy mine (later Mortimer) and the Paulina zinc smelter, which bordered with Zagórze from the south. Four years waited for the permission to make burials, the first deceased were buried only in the second half of 1891. The rapid development of Dąbrowa Górnicza and the rapid increase in the number of residents meant that already in 1914 the whole area of the cemetery was filled. The cemetery was closed to create new places, burials were made only to existing graves. In 1957, the administration of the necropolis was handed over to the parish of Saint. Barbara, at the beginning of the 70's a cemetery chapel was arranged. St. Barbara, which was expanded in 1985. In the same year, extensive work on ordering the cemetery began, lasting until 2005. In the meantime in 1990 it was possible to make burials in the place of leveled graves. [source: Wikipedia, 3494923]
