Orthodox cemetery in PiotrkĂłw Trybunalski - an Orthodox historic necropolis located in PiotrkĂłw Trybunalski, connected with Roman Catholic and Evangelical cemeteries. At first, the Orthodox cemetery functioned in the immediate vicinity of the All Saints' church. Then in connection with the ban on further burial in the city center, the Orthodox Church founded a new cemetery in 1830, connected with the Latin necropolis. Ok. 1870 both cemeteries were separated by a cast iron fence, dismantled after 1918 . A number of tombstones from the 19th and 20th centuries have been preserved in the cemetery. tombs of Russian soldiers from the 8th Regiment of Rifles, tsarist officials, Orthodox clergy stationed in PiotrkĂłw. Most of the tombstones belong to the Russians, except that the Orthodox Belarussians, Ukrainians (including URL soldiers) and Poles were buried in the cemetery. The necropolis survived without major losses the period of World War II, while it was successively devastated in the times of the Polish People's Republic. Most of the gravestones of Ukrainian soldiers were destroyed at that time, new permits were issued for the construction of new graves on the historic site, the tree branches were deliberately undercut so that their fall would destroy tombstones, the destruction of the necropolis was also caused by lack of maintenance . The technical condition of tombstones in the cemetery is different, only a few have been subjected to conservation procedures . The cemetery, together with the funeral chapel, the tomb chapel of T. Andreevoy and the fence with the gate, was entered on 28 April 1995 to the register of monuments under number 446. [source: Wikipedia, 2970889]
