History
At the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, the necessity to move a parish cemetery occupying a part of today's market was created. Kazimierz Grzybowski quotes: "In 1801 Józef Bnińska decided to give the land at the Kwilec road in Borek Jaroszewski to the cemetery for Roman Catholic Religions, and the parish priest did not reconcile the proposed place, because the place is located in an unpleasant neighborhood, in the neighborhood of a crayfish and gallows, connected with the forest, where the wolves and other beasts are prowling, and besides the parish there is a second cemetery [...] completely out of town where people from the city and the village are hiding today [this cemetery existed in the western part of Sieraków, not far from Evangelical hospital, in the place where the church of the Holy Spirit once stood. The authorities of the priest's arguments did not recognize and ordered the transfer of the cemetery. Residents bought land near Górska Droga (today's Daszyńskiego St.) and there a new cemetery was established, which is still open today. There was also an Evangelical cemetery next to it. The old parish cemetery was finally liquidated after the city fire in 1817. The cemetery area and the place of the burnt parish church were connected with the market, giving it its present shape and size. [source: Wikipedia, 2144748]
