Description of the cemetery
It was designed by the German architect Heinrich Scholz as a separate quarters on the then disused parish cemetery in TuchĂłw . It is located at the railway viaduct . The cemetery was made on a rectangular plan, but with a large additional performance on the monument on its back wall. The cemetery fence is made of metal pipes unbuttoned between stone posts. Entrance through a double metal gate. The main decorative element is a monument located on the side opposite the gate. It is made of stone and crowned with a concrete cross. On the front wall has the date 1914 . From the gate to the monument wall there is an alley, the graves of soldiers are placed symmetrically in five rows on both sides. These are concrete foundations defining the boundaries of the graves and concrete steles with tin nameplates. Names on the plates, however, can not be read. Steles are topped with cast-iron crosses. There are two types of these crosses: Maltese and Lorraine . 86 soldiers of the Russian army and 8 Austro-Hungarian soldiers were buried in the cemetery, in 44 single and 9 collective graves . The fate of the cemetery
All the Russian soldiers buried here died in December 1914, so their burial was carried out by the Russian army, which then occupied the area. The names of these soldiers are unknown. Austrian soldiers died on May 5, 1915 during the great offensive of the allied Austro-Hungarian and German troops, known as the Battle of Gorlice. Two of them are known from names. The Austrians started to build the cemetery in 1915 after the Russian army was expelled from these areas. The cemetery is preserved in very good condition, the monument was undamaged and all crosses on the steles were preserved. He was renewed. Removed, e.g. an overgrown hedge that blocked the cemetery. Thanks to this, the cemetery is visible from the railway viaduct. [source: Wikipedia, 2439958]
