War Cemetery No. 15 - Harklow - cemetery from World War I, designed by Johann Jäger, located in the village of Harklowa in the Skołyszyn commune in the Jasło county in the Podkarpackie voivodship. One of over 400 Western-Galician war cemeteries built by the Cemetery Graves Division of the C. and K. Military Commanders in Krakow. It belongs to the 2nd District of Jasło Cemetery. Description
The cemetery is located in the southern part of the village of Harklowa on the hill on the left side of the road to Pagorzyna, on the evidential plot No. 1497. The cemetery has a rectangular shape with a sloping western side with a fenced area of about 745 m. The main architectural feature is built into the rear (eastern) Fence wall A tall square pedestal with a Maltese stone cross placed on it on a plinth with smooth rock blocks. On the face of the cross a relief depicting a simple sword and engraved dates 1914 and 1916. A fence in the form of stone poles joined by metal railings with an entrance from the west. An irregular row-grave system with gravestones in the form of large openwork cast-iron crosses with round plaques and concrete steles with cast-iron inscription boards. 241 soldiers in 4 individual graves and 14 mass graves are buried in the cemetery Oktawian Duda Cemeteries of the First World War in Western Galicia 1914-1918 - Studies and materials, Center for the Protection of the Historic Landscape, Warsaw 1995, pp. 131,446 : * 6 Austro-Hungarian soldiers from 7th and 56th Infantry Regiment * 60 German soldiers from 268, 269, 270, 271 and 272 Prussian Reserve Infantry Regiment, 67 Reserve Field Artillery Regiment * 175 Russian soldiers killed in May 1915. The cemetery has the grave of the Austrian non-commissioned officer Piotr Stygar, who came from Harklowa, who was shot by his own soldiers for inhumane treatment. In one of the corners of the cemetery, a Wehrmacht soldier from World War II was buried. In the years 1993-95, the fence was restored, while in the years 2006-2007 a comprehensive renovation of the cemetery was carried out. The cemetery is the object of the East Front World War Trail in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. [source: Wikipedia, 860294]
