War Cemetery No. 216 - Sierakowice - an Austrian war cemetery from the First World War, built by the War Cemetery Department of the Commander-in-Chief and Commander in Krakow in its district VIII Brzesko. The necropolis is located in the north-eastern part of Łukanowice, about 500 meters east of Sierakowice, once an independent village, now a hamlet of Mikołajowice. The cemetery adjoins directly to the flood embankment on the Dunajec, north of the Tarnów-Kraków road, just behind the bridge on the right. Designed by Robert Motka. 7 Austro-Hungarian soldiers known by their names are buried there. At the cemetery there is a small monument with a poorly legible inscription and a cross made of inverted rifle shells embedded in concrete. The inscription on the monument reads: "FÜR GOTT, KAISER UND VATERLAND" (For God, Emperor and Fatherland). Cemetery made by the 28th Landturm Battalion. [source: Wikipedia, 2787251]
