War Cemetery No. 293 - Zakliczyn - a cemetery from World War I, located in Zakliczyn in the Lesser Poland voivodship, in the TarnĂłw poviat, in the municipality of Zakliczyn. It is one of 400 Western-Galician war cemeteries built by the Cemetery Graves Division of the C. and K. Military Commanders in Krakow. In the VIII Brest region, there are 52 cemeteries . History
It is a place of eternal rest for the soldiers of the Mosaic religion and is the only cemetery in the area where only the soldiers of that religion were buried. Eleven Austro-Hungarian soldiers and one soldier of the Russian army are here. [source: Wikipedia, 1452897]
Description of the cemetery
Built on a rectangular plan, a small cemetery (0.013 ha) is located just off the road from Zakliczyn to Gromnik . The fence consists of low concrete pillars, between which a decorative chain is stretched. Entrance through a low iron gate. Matzevot with the Stars of David were placed on the graves. The main decorative element of the cemetery is a monumental concrete wall embedded in the fence, covered with a rounded roof, on the sides of which two pillars were built. There is an inscription plate with the date 1914-1915 and an inscription in German :
UNS TOTEN IST NUR DEREN SCHRITT WILKOMMEN, DIE WÜRDIG SIND DER FRÜCHTE UNSERER SIEGE
This inscription in the translation into Polish means: Only those whose steps brought us, the dead, worthy are the fruits of our victory . The cemetery is well preserved . There is an information board in front of the gate of the cemetery. [source: Wikipedia, 1452897]
