Jewish cemetery in Zabrze - Jewish cemetery in Zabrze located at ul. Cemetery. This cemetery was founded in 1872. The reason for its founding was the establishment of a Jewish kehilla in Zabrze and difficulties in burying the dead, as the nearest Jewish cemeteries were in Bytom and Gliwice. The plot for the cemetery was donated to the Jewish community by Prince Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck. The Holy Brotherhood of "Chewra Kadisza" dealt with the majority of matters related to funeral ceremonies [http://web.archive.org/web/20060624054710/http://www.zabrze.aplus.pl/zabrze+cmentarz+zydowski+1n.html Jewish Cemetery - Zabrze] . The uniqueness of this cemetery results from the combination of modest matzevot in one place with monumental family tombs, which should be considered a symbol of the partial assimilation of the Jewish and Prussian communities. The cemetery covers an area of approx. 2.2 ha. Over 678 people were buried in 14 lodgings. About 500 tombstones have been preserved at the cemetery. The oldest gravestones are tombstones of Moritz Adler and Johanna Friedmann, both dead in 1872. In the past, the cemetery was deprived of care, which accelerated its devastation, and many marble and granite gravestones were stolen. In 1991-1992, the cemetery was destroyed twice. Since 1989, the care of the cemetery has been provided by the Social Committee for the Care of the Jewish Cemetery in Zabrze. An interesting fact may be that in the cemetery there are 266 trees of 13 species growing .
