History and description
The date of the cemetery's creation is unknown. Most probably, it was created in the mid-18th century for the needs of the Uniate parish in the neighborhood of the local church. It ceased to be used as the main cemetery together with the establishment of a new cemetery in the middle of Nineteenth century, remaining a burial cemetery. He changed the denomination to the Orthodox church as a result of the liquidation of the Uniate Chełm diocese in 1875 D. Kawałko, Cemeteries ..., p. 71. . In 1938, along with the demolition of the church, it was abandoned, and after the war it was intended for development . At the beginning of the 1990s, in the area of the former necropolis, the only surviving tombstone is the Uniate family tomb from the first half of the 19th century . This is the tomb of Józef Grotthus, the first president of the Hrubieszowski Agricultural Society, and his wife, Tekla Grotthus from Jaszowskie . It has the form of an earth mound with a stone obelisk on a multi-stage pedestal . In addition, on the former cemetery plot there is now a brick library building, and at the south-western border of the old necropolis stand the remaining linden . [source: Wikipedia, 3704926]
