War Cemetery in Grudziądz - closed cemetery near the Grudziądz Citadel, at ul. 18. Pułk Ułanów Pomorskich. The cemetery was founded in 1923 on the initiative of priest. Władysław Łęgi, who was then the parish priest of the military parish. In the interwar cemetery, dead soldiers from the garrison in Grudziądz and members of their families were buried in the interwar period. Of this period, 285 graves with the same crosses have been preserved. During the fighting in 1945, the cemetery was hit with artillery shells, some of the tombstones were destroyed. Soon after the war, in the mass grave, the remains of Allied prisoners detained by Germans in a nearby citadel and German soldiers were buried in the cemetery. In the northern part of the cemetery, at least 754 soldiers of the Soviet Army were buried, most of them died in nearby hospitals (those killed during the fighting are buried in the cemeteries of Pieńki Królewskie and Świerkocin). In part with the graves of Soviet soldiers in 1945, an obelisk with a memorial plaque was erected, and in 1993 the Gratitude Monument was moved to the Plac Wolności in Grudziądz.
