History and description

The Orthodox Church in Babice was first mentioned in 1564, and around 1684 it passed to the Uniate Church. In 1842, the local parish re-adopted Orthodoxy. The dead were buried at the temple from the beginning of its existence. It was not until around 1825 that burials at the church were abandoned and a new necropolis was established outside the buildings of the village. During spring floods, intense rains or floods, access to the cemetery was impossible, and some of the dead were buried in the church. There are two tombstones in the necropolis, occupying an area of 0.2 ha. Inscriptions on them are illegible, but on the basis of old descriptions of the church one can assume that they are Uniate monuments created before 1839. The first one is an obelisk on a rectangular pedestal; both elements of the tombstone are separated from each other by a stylized plate for the crown.
