Military Cemetery
Within the cemetery, there are quarters of Russian and German soldiers from the First World War as well as Polish, German, French and Soviet soldiers from World War II. The cemetery was founded in 1914, on which there are 219 concrete steles arranged in rows around which grass is planted. The houses are separated by gravel paths. The war cemetery is separated from the communal cemetery with a pile of hedge from a hornbeam. The military necropolis underwent renovation in 2008. [source: Wikipedia, 2717345]
Contemporary history of the cemetery
Due to the small space for new burials in 1995, a smaller Municipal Cemetery No. 2 was located at ul. Towarowa in the area of the Ełk Subzone of the Suwałki Special Economic Zone, less than a kilometer away from the old cemetery. However, due to the limited number of places, a project was created to build a new cemetery in Podlasie Bartoszyce at the present German war cemetery from the First and Second World Wars.
