History

The cemetery was created in the same period as the local parish of St. James the Apostle, i.e. at the beginning of the sixteenth century. It has a rectangular shape. It was enlarged in 1945 by occupying the area of the former Lutheran cemetery. For the second time the cemetery was enlarged in 1959 with the donation of Leon Hajdziona. The cemetery also includes the areas of the former Polish Catholic cemetery. At the cemetery there are few burials of soldiers who died during World War II (most of them were transferred to the Military Cemetery in Powązki after the war). There is also a separate headquarters of nuns from the Congregation of the Sisters of the Family of Mary. In the central part of the necropolis there is a small cemetery chapel.
