Roman Catholic cemetery of St. Franciszka in Łódź - the elder of two chojeń cemeteries (the second is the cemetery of St. Wojciech at Kurczaki Street), founded in the 1880s, in connection with the liquidation of the existing necropolis at the church of St. Adalbert. It is located between the current streets: Komorniki, Kominowa, Chóralna and Rzgowska. The only entrance to the area of the necropolis is the gate located at 156/158 Rzgowska Street. Numerous gravestones from the inter-war period, isolated from the beginning of the 20th century and a cemetery chapel built in 1928 have been preserved in the necropolis. The oldest preserved tombstones come from 1897. During the German occupation of Łódź during World War II, from June 1, 1942 to January 19, 1945, it was one of two cemeteries (next to a nearby cemetery at Kurczaki Street), on which only Poles could be buried This was related to the destiny of the Chojen region in the post-war plans of the Nazis concerning Łódź (Litzmanstadt) for exclusive residence by Poles (see: Tadeusz Bojanowski, Łódź under German occupation during the Second World War, 1939-1945 Łódź 1992, p. 196). . __BEZSPISU__ [source: Wikipedia, 2364309]
